Happy Hour at The Rover | Oysters & Cocktails | Surry Hills, Sydney

If you're on the lookout for a great happy hour spot in Sydney, The Rover in Surry Hills should be high on your list. Tucked away on Campbell Street, this charming venue strikes the perfect balance between laid-back elegance and vibrant energy, making it a fantastic place to unwind after work or kick off a night out.

I've always been one who loves a good happy hour, but with the cost of living rising, I've been loving them even more!

Keep reading to find out why I believe the happy hour at The Rover is one of Sydney’s best-kept secrets.

$2 oysters during happy hour

Yes, you read that right. Freshly shucked oysters for just $2 each during happy hour! Whether you've loved oysters for years, or you're someone who's just starting to appreciate these slimy, salty delights, The Rover’s oysters are a must-try. They’re beautifully presented and pair well with wine or cocktails.

Cocktails with character

Alongside the oyster special, The Rover also offers happy hour cocktails, which are anything but ordinary. In addition to basic mixed drinks, you’ll also find well-crafted cocktails that showcase quality spirits, fresh ingredients, and a bit of creative flair.

The drinks menu at The Rover was quite extensive, with some interesting combinations I've not seen before. If you're not sure what you're after, ask the bartenders or recommend something to suit your tastes. Of course, there's plenty of great wine and beer on the menu too!

We enjoyed sitting at the bar sipping on cocktails and enjoying a plate of oysters while watching the bartenders expertly mix drinks, before heading upstairs for dinner.

The Vibe at The Rover

This Surrey Hills favourite has a warm, intimate atmosphere with an old-world feel... think dark wood, cosy corners, with a touch of class and some nautical charm. It's classy without being pretentious, and casual without being too casual.

Why you need to visit The Rover during happy hour

If you’re looking for a happy hour in Sydney that offers more than just cheap drinks, The Rover delivers. $2 oysters and fantastic cocktails in a old-timey setting? Yes, please!

Whether you're heading to happy hour with friends, on a date, or flying solo, The Rover is suitable for all occasions.

What can I expect from The Rover's happy hour?

The Rover's happy hour runs from Monday-Saturday between 4-6pm. Expect $2 oysters, $6 gin and tonics, $10 wines, and $14 spritzes.

Be sure to check out the specials board for seasonal cocktails, and the oyster selection of the day. On the night of my visit they had Sydney Rock oysters from Wagonga, and also Pacific oysters from Boomer Bay and Duck Bay. More recently they've had Sydney Rock oysters from Merimbula, and Pacific oysters from Coffin Bay.

I love a good happy hour special. I haven't been to Sydney but looking at those happy hour prices it seems like an expensive city to drink and dine out in. The fresh seafood must be amazing though.

I do love a happy hour and have been known to favour them regularly however, never taken to oysters.
